In a bid to provide modern educational and digital facilities to students and promote quality education in public-sector institutions, Jahangir Khan Tareen inaugurated a state-of-the-art computer lab established by the Tareen Education Foundation at Government M.A.O. Graduate College Lahore. The computer lab has been developed at a cost of approximately Rs. 10 million, including the provision of modern equipment.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Jahangir Khan Tareen said that the importance of information technology in the present era could not be denied. He said that if the younger generation was equipped with modern knowledge and technology, they would not only achieve success in their personal lives but would also be able to play an effective role in the development of the country.
He added that students could fully realise their potential only when they were provided with quality education and better opportunities.
Jahangir Khan Tareen said that reducing educational disparity in society was an important need of the time. Students belonging to lower-income segments should have access to the same quality educational facilities and opportunities available to students studying at the country’s leading educational institutions. He said that educational initiatives, including TICER and Amina Girls Degree College in South Punjab, had also been undertaken with the same vision of providing students with quality education and modern facilities in their own communities.
Responding to questions from students, Jahangir Khan Tareen said that success in business depended on honesty, commitment, hard work and efficiency. He said that a good team had played an important role in his business journey. Putting the right person in the right position and empowering the team were among the key factors that paved the way for business success, he added.
He said that agriculture was his passion and a key area of interest, which was why he remained actively involved in agro-based industries. He emphasised that the country’s development required the adoption of modern methods and best practices across agriculture, industry, education and other sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Group Director Finance of JDW Group Muhammad Rafiq said that corporate farming was one of the major projects of JDW Group, spread over more than 26,000 acres. He said that Jahangir Khan Tareen’s vision was for the Group to engage directly in farming so that it could develop a better and practical understanding of the challenges faced by farmers.
Muhammad Rafiq said that the growth of JDW Group was considerably higher compared to others and that the Group followed the best business practices across all its activities that yielded best results. Success of our business is primarily because of ethical practices and honoring our commitments with all stakeholders.
He said that the Tareen Education Foundation had so far established 11 modern computer labs in different colleges across Lahore. The objective of these initiatives was to introduce modern and quality facilities in public-sector educational institutions, enabling students to acquire education and training in line with the demands of modern technology. He said that a new standard was being set whereby public-sector colleges should also have high-quality computer labs so that a greater number of students could benefit from such facilities.
Chief Executive Officer of the Tareen Education Foundation Akbar Khan said that the Foundation’s objective was to facilitate educational institutions in the domain of IT and modern education.
He said that access to modern equipment and quality educational facilities was essential for students to develop expertise in emerging fields such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, e-commerce and artificial intelligence.
Principal of Government M.A.O. Graduate College Lahore Dr. Asif Chattha thanked Jahangir Khan Tareen and the Tareen Education Foundation for providing the college with a state-of-the-art computer laboratory. He said that the facility was a valuable addition for the students and added that approximately 7,000 students were enrolled at the college who would benefit extensively from the new computer laboratory.
The ceremony was attended by DPI Colleges Punjab Anser Zahid, Director Colleges Lahore Ahsan Mukhtar, Principal Government M.A.O. Graduate College Dr. Asif Chattha, representatives of the Tareen Education Foundation, faculty members and a large number of students.
